Arte Moris

Last week we went to Arte Moris for a lovely guided tour. Arte Moris is an independent school of fine arts in Dili. What wins me over is the atmosphere of the compound. They have a large and gorgeous garden with tall, old trees and flowers and installations and sculptures and peace. After visiting a place where creativity is so obvious and treasured my positivity has no end.

(ps: arte = art, moris = life)

spotted

I recently had a rather disturbing/flattering conversation with a timorese co-worker. He was telling me of his day, and that he ran into a friend on the street. This friend lives close to where I work, and is of course used to seeing a rather large crowd of malais (timor word for foreigners) wondering in and out of the gate. Appearantly it must be investigated whenever an unknown malai enters the radar. So naturally, this man asks my co-worker who this malai woman is that on several occasions has been spotted in the area. He is of course given the solicited information, and: is asked if he would like to come by the office and have a closer look at me! What?! I am not even sure if I am to be insulted or weirdly flattered. Luckily for me the facehunter didn't quite feel like an excursion to malai territory, he just liked my looks.

The Sea and The Sunset

apologies, pictures reflect the quality of camera. Oh well..

Spent Sunday out and about Atauro island north of Dili. It was indescribably lovely. Fishes and corals and sun and breeze and Clean Water and beer and book. Perfection. The sunset pictures are from last week I think but am sure the sunset was just as wonderful on Sunday. It must have been for it was a wonderful day.
